Refreshments, live music, door prizes, even exotic horses is the way to have an Open House and Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to remember.  Hundreds of people came out on June 13, 2014 to welcome Vanquish Worldwide and its sister companies: Front Range Training , Peak Technical Institute , and LexLin Gypsy Ranch  to Maryville, TN.  Eric Barton, President and CEO and Mechelle Barton wanted to make the event one that the Vanquish family would be proud of as we celebrated the previous success of the company and the direction in which we are headed.

On the morning of the event, The Daily Times published a wonderful article written by Robert Norris about Vanquish Worldwide noting that “the name evokes power and distance with a sense of precision and vagueness all at once”.  To read the article in length, click here:  The article states that Vanquish Worldwide is a self-described “asset-based premier transportation provider that provides a wide variety and the highest level of transportation and logistic solutions for government and commercial clients”.

Dignitaries from throughout East TN attended the event in support of Vanquish. Speaking on behalf of the City of Maryville was Mayor Tom Taylor.  From Blount County were Mayor Ed Mitchell and Blount County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors Chair Dave Bennett.   State House Representative from District 8, Art Swann and Keith Abraham from Senator Lamar Alexander’s Office were also in attendance to show their support.

Being a Service Disabled Veteran Owed Small Business, we were truly honored by the vast veteran attendance at the ceremony.  Rich Gill represented the Vietnam Veterans of America out of Knoxville, TN bringing with him Buzz Buswell, the Director of Veteran Services for Knox County and Bill Robinson, the longest held enlisted POW of the Vietnam War, 7 ½ years. The many veterans in attendance were able to witness LTC Melvin Clawson, Commander of the McGhee Tyson TN Army National Guard 1-230th Air Calvary Squadron present Mr. Barton with a framed photograph of a 58d Kiowa Warrior helicopter, which is flown by the 1-230th Air Calvary Squadron  This was a touching moment as we remembered his squadron that is currently deployed in Afghanistan, just a few months after joining Eric and the Vanquish Team in their suite at a University of Tennessee basketball game.

Prior to the event there was online registering in which those interested could register to win 1 of 2 Peak Technical Institute Social Decorum Academy Scholarships .  Each seat is valued at over $250 and includes a 4 course meal at Knoxville’s Club LeConte and directed by our business etiquette and protocol expert, Fitzgerald Heslop.  Marie Lyman and Nick Weissfeld were announced at the event as the recipients of the SDA Scholarships. Congratulations!

At the ribbon cutting, Mr. Barton announced some recent happenings with the company including a recent award of a National Afghan Trucking contract (NAT 1.5) in Afghanistan – one of seven contractors selected for the more than total $200 million deal.  The company also just landed a Corps of Engineers HVAC contract in Loudon.  To top those announcements, was the one in which Mr. Barton broke the news to the Vanquish team  and all those in attendance that they had just been awarded a National Afghan Trucking contract (NAT 2) in Afghanistan – one of the 7 contractors selected for the more than $689 million deal which will begin in December 2014.

The highlight of the afternoon was of course the cutting of the ribbon to the new Corporate Headquarters for Vanquish Worldwide.  It was made even more special with the attendance of Tiffany Midyett, our recently departed Vice President of Sales and Marketing who was instrumental in helping establish Vanquish from the beginning.  Also surrounding Eric was his supportive family, the employees of Vanquish Worldwide, Front Range Training, Peak Technical Institute, and LexLin Gypsy Ranch as everyone celebrated together the beginning of “Delivering Excellence” in Blount County and the surrounding counties.
