Nearly 150 nominations were received this year, and roughly 80 nominations from last year were updated. The list was winnowed with the aim of creating a diverse group reflective of the range of opportunities available in East Tennessee. No repeats exist from last year’s list, and we’ve included a list of alumni.

RELYANT AWARDED SECURE MOVEMENT & TRANSPORTATION TASK ORDER

Posted on September 1, 2010 with No Comments

MARYVILLE, TN – RELYANT, LLC, a Maryville-based company providing worldwide strategic support services, has been awarded a task order for movement and transportation of equipment throughout Afghanistan.  This allows RELYANT to move their own goods and equipment to locations where they operate.

RELYANT currently moves construction materials, spray foam, and de-mining equipment around Afghanistan with our local national transportation and security partner. RELYANT has demonstrated success in moving equipment in a low profile manner when feasible to mitigate the risk of terrorist attack on our supply chain. This has greatly reduced the losses to our materials and supplies. RELYANT can also perform standard convoy operations which can move any product around country with minimal losses. Losses sustained by other companies are much higher than RELYANT’s with our current partners. The company uses a tiered approach to movements, based on daily threat analysis done by our security management staff that has more than 20 years of combined experience in high-threat environments.

Our local partners are vetted and experienced in movement of materials around Afghanistan.  They currently conduct more than 200 convoys per month to all parts of the country.  They have experienced, well trained, and well equipped convoy teams with knowledge of the terrain and roads for which they travel on a daily basis.  Our partners have been used by the Department of Defense and other Government agencies to conduct missions in very short time frames when needed by the client.

RELYANT SPONSORS 10k RUN AT BAGRAM AIRFIELD

Posted on August 24, 2010 with No Comments

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan – High heat and swirling dust could not keep 300 men and women from turning out for the “Dog Days of Summer” 10K run at Bagram Airfield, sponsored by RELYANT on August 14, 2010. The airfield is home to the 455th Expeditionary Air Wing.

More than 300 took part in the run. Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and civilians stationed at Bagram Airfield shared the race route, competing with two military working dogs for first prize in the race. Congratulations to U.S. Army SGT Sam Morris, the race winner.

Due to the high operational pace of units at Bagram Airfield, the race route was shared with all military traffic.

“The men and women at Bagram work incredibly hard day after day, coping with challenges that most of us can’t imagine,” said Don Patton, vice president of operations at RELYANT. “The Dog Days race is a great way for these dedicated people to release some stress and have a great time. We were pleased to sponsor it.”

RELYANT Vehicle Maintenance Contract Expanded in Iraq

Posted on July 30, 2010 with No Comments

MARYVILLE, Tenn., July 29 / — RELYANT, LLC, a Maryville-based company providing worldwide strategic support services, has received funding to increase the number of vehicles it maintains for the U.S. government at Al Asad Air Base Regional Contracting Center in Iraq from 500 to 625 vehicles.

RELYANT provides services ranging from brake system repair to engine replacement. They have provided these services in Iraq for three years and have facilities capable of supporting more than 6,000 vehicles. The vehicles are considered non-tactical, and are primarily trucks and SUVs manufactured by Ford and Chevrolet.

RELYANT provides both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance to government vehicles.  In Afghanistan, RELYANT provides services to eight sites. In addition, the company operates a mobile operation that allows them to go to the vehicle in need of repair, so experience with in-country movement is essential.

“They have set the standard for contractor provided services and continue to be a confident source of knowledgeable advisement for present and future sustainment operations,” said MGySgt Earl Herndon, Motor Transport Chief, COR.

To date, RELYANT has procured more than 100,000 vehicle parts, repaired more than 10,000 vehicles, and has trained hundreds of local national mechanics.

Performing vehicle maintenance in an austere and hostile environment presents many challenges. The environments in Iraq and Afghanistan are very harsh due to the sand and climate.  In Afghanistan, the harsh, mountainous terrain presents an even greater challenge. Vehicles operating in these environments require more frequent repairs and maintenance proving that vehicle maintenance services are a fundamental necessity.

In addition to the environment, logistics continues to be challenging, particularly in Afghanistan. To circumvent these issues, RELYANT maintains warehouses of the most common repair parts to eliminate or significantly reduce repair delays.

“Our vehicle maintenance contract in Iraq was the first contract we were awarded, and it remains a core competency that we intend to expand,” said Eric W. Barton, RELYANT President and CEO.

RELYANT AWARDED $7 MILLION EXPANSION TO SPRAY FOAM INSULATION PROGRAM

Posted on July 19, 2010 with No Comments

MARYVILLE, TN  – RELYANT, LLC, a Maryville-based company providing worldwide strategic support services, has received notification of a $7 million expansion of its current $32 million contract with the Bagram Regional Contracting Center in Afghanistan.

RELYANT has provided environmentally friendly, US Army-approved spray foam insulation to soft-sided surfaces such as tents to aid in the heating and cooling of soldiers’ living quarters since September 2008.

In addition to providing more comfortable living areas for soldiers in the US and abroad, foam insulation provides a 70 – 95 percent decrease in the use of diesel fuel, according to the GAO Report 09-300 Defense Energy Management. This reduces fuel transportation costs to various locations in theater. Fuel is an exorbitant expense in Afghanistan and surrounding areas and the transportation and shipping of fuel is extremely dangerous. Reducing the Government’s reliance on diesel fuel means fewer required convoy support missions and fewer lives in jeopardy. A study conducted by AMSAA demonstrated foam insulation has the potential to take 11,000 truckloads of fuel off the road and save taxpayers $800 million.

In June 2008 alone, 44 trucks and 220,000 gallons of fuel were lost due to attacks or other events during efforts to deliver fuel to Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan, according to GAO (as reported in the New York Times, 1/8/10.)

Eric W. Barton, RELYANT President and CEO said, “RELYANT solutions provide a tangible benefit to American soldiers in the field. This particular contract increases our warriors’ comfort and reduces costs to taxpayers, which is a win for everyone involved.”

The spray foam insulation project is a key contract for RELYANT. There are currently multiple teams in Afghanistan operating on a daily basis with the capacity to spray up to 40,000 square feet of foam per day. This contract expansion is an indication of the Government’s continued confidence in RELYANT and in the solution.

Relyant’s efforts “have been recognized throughout Joint Contracting Command – Afghanistan and have made a noticeable difference in the preparedness of our Forward Operating Bases, both for facility climate control and the Department of Defense mission to reduce fuel consumption,” said SFC Troy Winters, Contracting Officer Representative.
